Do you remember IBM ? well let me refresh your memory with a flash back from the past. This giant company was one of top leading companies in computer technology during the late 80's and the 90's before even Apple was able to come back with their hugest technology of the millennium. However, I am not here to write this info that you may or may not already know, but I am writing this blog to express how amazed I was after reading the article on the business website Bloomberg.com. Apparently a survey has been done to find out which Company is at the top level of the computer market at the moment, and by moment I mean the year 2011 (of-course). Now let's go back to the surprising part, According to the survey, IBM was able to push Microsoft from its long running position as the second valuable computer company in the market, and here when I thought IBM has disappeared along with the 90s era , it comes back with a great strike to hold the second spot. it is a great sucess that IBM transformed from the biggest PC and hardware manufacture back in 1980's to one of the biggest software and computing service provider in present day. It provides the guideline for other large PC manufactures. Since the current PC market are nearly full, the revenue income for producing PC is diminishing. Large PC producers like HP, Dell are going to suffer loss from this business. It is better to reallocate the resoucre to other areas to gain higher profit.

yes, I totally agree with you. The PC companies are highly competitive. But I think in this way, maybe it will be good for the companies to develop the new technology.

I don't think IBM has ever disappeared from the competition. They don't really make the news because they aren't really doing things that are popular with most of society. They have created technologies in many areas, such as electric and healthcare. I hope they become more popular, because they are definitely one of the best tech companies around.
回复删除IBM has moved on to master the back-end technology since I'm sure that there isn't much profit for them to make with hardware. Though the general public may not be aware of it, IBM products, such as DB2, WebSphere and SmartCloud, are rather prominent, but their main customer base are corporations, so everyday consumers could come into contact with IBM products and not even be aware of it.
